Our little mouse was just not herself for the last week and a half of June. She was drained of energy, kind of crabby, not very smiley, and had a bit of a cough. She was spending LOTS of time outside with Grampa, Grumpa, Marni, and mommy and daddy, so when her cheeks turned red and a little bumpy we thought she had a bad sunburn. The week before the end of school, I was getting more concerned - moreso with the change in her behaviour. She stopped wanting Peppa time with Daddy - WEIRD. She didn't want to talk to Grampa on the phone - WEIRD. She slept one day until 2:30 pm - WEIRD (even for a kid who sleeps in typically until 11:30'ish). If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, guess what friends? It's probably a duck.

On the Saturday after the end of school (long weekend) - my concern hit a high when I was changing her and the supposed sunburn was all over her tummy. How would a child get sunburn on their belly if that area had not been exposed to the sun. We went to the walk in clinic and after some testing, the doctor came back with the diagnosis of Scarlet Fever. She had an on and off fever for a while but I had thought it was due to all the sun. Poor Mousie!!! She was prescribed a 3 day intensive course of antibiotics and sent home with the instruction to go to emergency if the fever and rash showed no improvement.
Thank goodness!! By the end of round one, she was asking for Peppa - I knew things were heading in the right direction! After the second dose, she was back to emptying drawers and kissing puppy dogs. And after the third, she was singing, dancing, running - oh and the rash faded! Like I said, my concern was the shift in her behaviour - it was a tell tale sign that something was up with my usually bright and sunshiney ball of fun!
